Bernhard Ribbrock, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

After completing his computer science studies at the University of Paderborn, Bernhard Ribbrock began working for the Bertelsmann IT System House in April 1979, where he was promoted to management level in 1984.  In 1987/88, Bernhard Ribbrock took over the management of the Communication Network Division. From 1995 to 1996 he held the position of Assistant Managing Director. In October 1996, he established mediaWays as a joint-venture between Bertelsmann and Debis Systemhaus. Within six years he had developed the company to become a leading and profitable supplier of internet technology. After mediaWays was sold to the Spanish telecommunications company Telefónica, he continued to work as CEO for the network operator until early 2002. He returned to Bertelsmann in May 2002 as CEO of the newly established mobile unit, arvato mobile, to later be given the additional responsibility as CEO of empolis GmbH in October of 2002.

 

 


Dr Stefan Wess, Managing Director

After graduating with a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Minor in Business Administration, Stefan Wess was involved in a variety of R & D projects for the European Community. During this time, he published numerous books and articles in IT journals on Artificial Intelligence and he organized several international conferences on these topics. In 1995, after being awarded his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Kaiserslautern, Stefan Wess became Technical Manager of the American CRM software company Inference (later acquired by eGain). He headed international CRM projects in highly reputable organizations like Toshiba, Daimler Benz, IBM or UBS. In 1997, Stefan Wess took responsibility as CEO of tec:inno in Kaiserslautern managing the rapid and profitable growth of the company.  After tec:inno was acquired by empolis in 2000, Stefan Wess became a member of the management board and was appointed as managing director in 2006.

 

 


Andreas Rempe, Vice President Sales

In July 1986, Andreas Rempe started his career with the Bertelsmann Software GmbH as C-programmer in the area of new media to develop database systems for CD-ROM applications. He transferred to the newly established area of key account management with eps Bertelsmann in July 1989 where he, in conjunction with customers from the automotive and spare parts industry, developed the first information systems on CD-ROMs for repair shops. He continually expanded the key account department and became a member of eps Bertelsmann management in 1994. In 1998, he joined the management board of a logistics service provider, where he was responsible for business development. In 2000, he returned to Bertelsmann by joining empolis GmbH. In 2006, Andreas was appointed as Vice President and member of the empolis management board, where he is responsible for business development and sales.

 


Dr Mario Lenz, CTO

Dr. Mario Lenz completed his Doctorate in Computer Sciences at the Humboldt University in Berlin, majoring in Knowledge Management and minoring in Psychology. During his studies, numerous industrial cooperation projects took place. In 1999 Mario became Director of Development at tec:inno. After the integration of tec:inno into empolis and several management positions in product development, Dr. Lenz was appointed CTO and became a member of the empolis management board in 2006.

 


Stefan Volland, Vice President Professional Services

Stefan Volland received a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University Darmstadt and started his career as a field engineer at Siemens, primarily in charge of working directly with customers in the South East Asian region. He led several major projects, establishing new communication systems for major companies like Swire Group and Petronas. In 1997, meanwhile working as key account manager for strategic accounts, he returned to Germany and joined the Swedish Bonnier Group and assumed responsibility for the German IT Operations. In 2000, empolis acquired the company and Stefan became Director of Professional Services at empolis.  He became member of the empolis management board in 2006 and was responsible for a sales division. In 2007, he was appointed COO and holds responsibility for the Professional Services Unit.

 


Dirk Speckmann, CFO

After completing his degree in business administration from the University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld, Dirk Speckmann began his career with Bertelsmann in 1999. In 2001, he started working for empolis, initially as Senior Controller with responsibilities in different areas over the years (i.e. controlling of international divisions, development and product controlling) and finally for the commercial supervision during the establishment of two new arvato business areas, not directly related to empolis. Since September 2006, Dirk Speckmann holds the position of Vice President Finance and Organization and is member of the empolis management board.
