New Features Significantly Improve Contextual Navigation Capabilities, Ensuring Unparalleled Search and Retrieval Experience

The newest release of the empolis:Information Access Suite (e:IAS) 6.0 extends the platform's leadership position in a variety of vertical applications including legal discovery, compliance enforcement, and investigative and intelligence scenarios. As a key accomplishment, e:IAS 6.0 introduces new relevancy management offering full control over all individual ranking factors, adding highly scalable term proximity as a primary ranking influence. As a result, customers will experience superior search accuracy and a higher level of quality in corporate decision making.

Dr Michael Seyd, member of DATEV's management board, summarizes the company's project experiences to date: "By singling out empolis' solutions for our information management  needs, we've not only secured the use of leading-edge search technologies. We've also found a strategic partner to support us in responding to design and technical questions. Central to our decision was empolis' years of experience in knowledge management and the future investment security derived from the company being part of arvato AG, a Bertelsmann company."

e:IAS 6.0 offers a wealth of new and improved features that significantly improve search and navigation experience, such as

  • Contextual categorization and grouping of search results for dynamically guided navigation and retrieval refinement
  • Fully automated extraction of key phrases based on state-of-the-art machine-learning approaches for high-quality query refinements
  • Extended support for contextual highlighting of relevant phrases and passages for intuitive search result processing and visualization
  • Improved linguistics for languages from Eastern Europe and the Middle East, facilitating language support for more than 30 languages

"State-of-the-art information access requires a high level of local configurability of the underlying technology to adapt to specific and complex customer scenarios", said Sue Aldrich, Principal at Greenhill Analysis. "This configurability requires unified access to unstructured and structured information sources as well as significant human control over the way relevancy is determined for search results. In today's business environments it is imperative to understand that search precision depends on personal experiences, expectations and business context, not on generic, abstract formulae. Hence, information access technology needs to be easily adapted to understand, respect, and leverage these individual aspects to deliver optimal value to organizations."

Other highlights of the latest version of e:IAS include:

  • Expanded platform support - e:IAS 6.0 now supports SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 (Intel x64, 64-bit) and Solaris 10 (Sparc, 64-bit)
  • Improved integration with leading J2EE application platforms (e.g. IBM, Oracle, BEA and others)
  • A new console application for administrators that streamlines the management of many data sources while automatically optimizing infrastructure usage and load
  • Native API support for environments based on Microsoft .NET 2.0 in the updated Software Development Kit (SDK)
