For two decades, the company has been specialising in developing content and knowledge management software solutions. This long-term existence in a fast moving business demonstrates that the corporate philosophy has successfully been put into practice and that the course for the future has been set in the right way.

It all began in 1986 with the foundation of EPS, Electronic Printing Systems GmbH, as a subsidiary of Mohn Druck GmbH. In the beginning, the company transferred the publications of automobile companies to microfiche. In the course of moving towards digitalisation, the company developed into a full-service partner for electronic information and communication solutions. In 2000 the merger with "tec:inno GmbH," a provider of intelligent search technologies, "STEP Electronic Publishing GmbH" a subsidiary of the university printer H. Stürtz AG, "Schnittstelle GmbH" with its cross-media product data and information management solution for multimedia catalog production, and "cutup GmbH" were realized. empolis united five media service companies and software manufacturers for content and knowledge management solutions under one roof.

Since then, empolis (as a subsidiary of Arvato Bertelsmann AG) has become one of the internationally leading providers in the fields of corporate information logistics and the optimisation of business processes. 180 employees work in three German locations(Gütersloh, Kaiserslautern and Würzburg-Rimpar) and in an office in Poland for clients including Airbus, Bosch, the European Patent Office, DATEV, Otto, Siemens, or VR Kreditwerk, achieving an annual turnover of approx. 30 million euros.

Many years of participation in public and international research and development projects are reflected in empolis' technological leadership in its core areas of expertise: information management, service management, media management, product & catalog management, and semantic technologies:

Information management covers intelligent and personalised information access as well as maximum efficiency and effectiveness when searching and navigating, analysing, sorting and linking information and when creating new content.

Service Management deals with the automating of each phase of the service lifecycle: from efficient creation and publication of technical documentation via intelligent problem solving in call centres and telephone service down to the systematic diagnosis and problem solving by customer services on site.

Product & Catalog Management looks at solutions for automated catalog and media production. A media-independent management of product information allows for the integration of all sales and communication channels.

Media Management enables the creation, management and distribution of digital content (documents, audio, video, tv) via internet, iTV or mobile.

Twenty years of experience, an in-depth knowledge of the industries, an endless innovation potential and a high quality level are the basis for further expansion and development.
