Merger creates German champion for AI-based software solutions for industry and public administration

Empolis and intelligent views, two German AI pioneers, are joining forces. Their standardized software solutions accelerate digitalization in industry and public administration.

Kaiserslautern, Darmstadt, Germany, February 4, 2020 – Empolis Information Management GmbH, one of Germany’s AI pioneers, acquires 100 percent of the shares in intelligent views GmbH. The merger combines the digitalization skills of the two companies, most notably in the areas of manufacturing and public administration, the fields that play an important role in Germany.

For many years, intelligent views successfully developed and marketed the patented software “i-views”, which is utilized to easily create digital representations of human knowledge in “knowledge graphs.” Industrial customers and public sector institutions can thus automate complex tasks within their field of expertise and knowledge domains – comprehensible and sound. intelligent views is a Gartner Cool Vendor, and the only German supplier of the emerging “knowledge graph” technology, it is named in five Gartner Hype Cycles*.

At the same time, sector-leading clients use powerful analytical and search methods by Empolis to make decisions based on large volumes of information and primarily unstructured data.

With the merger, the two German companies combine their expertise in the field of artificial intelligence. As a result, industrial customers and public sector institutions will be able to rely on the company to provide expert advice and standardized software solutions in support of their digitalization efforts.

Empolis is now adding a large number of use cases to its SaaS solution portfolio in the industrial sector. For example, the knowledge graph system can be used to answer questions related to complex technical matters and configurations that frequently arise during sales or service processes. Specific questions about the configuration of technical components that arise during maintenance or when replacing spare parts can also be answered promptly with intelligent product information supplied through knowledge graphs.

Together with intelligent views, Empolis has set the goal of creating a standardized software solution for German industry that can be used to set up a “digital twin,” which mirrors complex machines and products. In this digital twin, knowledge spanning the entire product life cycle of machines or equipment, as well as all existing data silos, is represented in digital knowledge graphs. It is then analyzed and made available in intelligent formats for use in all parts of the company, such as production, installation, maintenance, sales and service.

“We’ve worked with intelligent views GmbH for years, and they represent the perfect fit for Empolis, considering the complementary product range, our shared clients and the successful projects we’ve completed together in the past. Beyond that, intelligent views is an ideal match for us in regard to their strategic focus and corporate culture too,” says Dr. Stefan Wess, CEO of Empolis Information Management GmbH.

“Of course, we will ensure our customers and partners benefit from the continuation of all business relationships, as well as synergy effects through integrated products, which can be utilized immediately to achieve added value for their business,” says Klaus Reichenberger, managing director of intelligent views GmbH.

Thanks to their combined expertise, the companies will now broaden their consulting capacity for industry and government and significantly expand their common partner network. The Darmstadt location is an addition to the Empolis locations in Berlin, Bielefeld, Würzburg and Kaiserslautern.

“We are grateful to Dr. Reinhard Festag, who played a major role in positive economic growth in the software business for intelligent views. During his time as management spokesman and CEO, he was also a key source of inspiration for the development of knowledge graph technology and the launch of new products,” says Matthias Freiherr von Tettau, managing partner of DIH Deutsche Industrie-Holding GmbH (previously the main shareholder of intelligent views GmbH).

Festag, who has a PhD in physics, moved to intelligent views in 2016 after serving as an associate principal at McKinsey & Company and holding several positions in the software industry. By consistently following through on its strategy, the company became an important software provider in Germany and is now well-equipped to face the upcoming changes.
